Ardara is a small town with a population of 578 (2002 Census). Over recent years the town has seen some great growth with a lot of the pubs and shops being renovated. Some of the main scenic points near the town are the Glengesh Pass, the Maghera Falls and the views out over the Atlantic from Loughros Point.
Ardara has many friendly pubs like the Corner House and Nancy's, which are famous for live Irish music and song, whilst Woodhill House and the Nesbit Arms are renowned for good food. Charley's Café serves super family meals including a delicious seafood chowder and unbeatable fresh salad.
Bicycles can be hired from the Heritage Town of Ardara 5 km away, and mapped walks start from the cottage. A popular hike is past the Maghera Caves, up the side of Eseranka Waterfall and around by Slievetooey Mountain. Other walks take in the many archeological sites in the area. A short walk below the cottage leads to a lovely beach with rock pools and golden sands, ideal for an early morning walk or dip in the sea.
Narin & Portnoo Golf Club is situated in the beautiful seaside resort of Portnoo, about 9 miles away. It is considered one of the finest natural links courses in Ireland. It is certainly one of the most scenic.
In March for the last 10 years the area has hosted a very successful Walking Festival with walkers coming from all over the world, USA, Europe and all over Ireland. All the information on the Festivals of Ardara are available at the Heritage Centre. The town hosts the annual "Cup of Tae" traditional music festival each May.
